NO ADVENTURES TODAY

Usually when someone in this household goes shopping, I get to ride along. There's a really nice carpet in the back seat of the car. Even if someone is in the store, I won't get cold, because I have on my winter coat.

But yesterday was -49°C (or -56°F if you prefer). First, the car wouldn't start. So — make sure the block heater is working, and the battery charger is on. A couple of hours later, the car started, but it was ruled inadvisable to take me on the shopping trip.

I was annoyed, to put it mildly. I am a Duchess; I should be taken places.

Really, sometimes these colonials can be such a bother!

MISS-ADVENTUES IN THE LAND OF WTF

One can never be too careful these days, especially in blogging. What is said to one person might be picked up and mis-understood by another, with disastrous consequences.

This all begins with Teri, The Bipolar Diva. She was going on a holiday to Hawaii. She had some swimsuits (all very "fetching," as an Aussie mate would say). She wanted her readers to decide which two were the best. I made a very simple comment, from one girl to another (you understand). I said, "I'm not really big on "haute coutrue," or whatever humans call it. You look especially good in A and B. But, truth be told, they all look a little small on you."

However, the Queen of WTF, bosom buddy of the Diva, was "not amused." And before I knew it, I had been thrown in the Royal Prison! Really, it was just a terrible misunderstanding, and we got it sorted out soon enough.

But while there, I learned a new skill and a new language. When I was finally released, I actually hunted up a cottage, thinking I would stay a while and get to know these most interesting people. I even applied for the job of Royal Fool (for which I thought I was very well qualified). Turns out that I was over-qualified, and my application was summarily dismissed. I was thoroughly disappointed, but having been thrown out of better places, I simply considered the situation, and chalked up as a "life experience in a different part of the world." Besides, if they turned me down for the job of Royal Fool, it plainly showed members of the Royalty in that land had no sense of humour. Saints preserve us from that sort of place!

So I sublet my cottage to a family of pigs, and came home to Bear's place. I trust I'll be safe for the rest of winter.

LIFE HAS CHANGED

Due to technical difficulties beyond our control, you may have problems posting your responses to this blog.

I am trying to resolve these problems. Please pat me on the head to relieve any anxieties. I'll give you licks and nuzzles as soon as I can.

TOURING THE LAND

Since Bear has not gone back into hibernation yet, we decided to traverse the ambit of my domain in the colony across the pond (i.e., Canada).

A word of explanation. (Actually, a few words.)

You understand, quite correctly, that I'm an absentee landlord from my British estates. But really, they're not much of note. As Duchess of St. Swythyn's Punt-on-Thames, I'm the proud owner of a small punt, moored in the middle of the Thames River. As Duchess of Cardigan and Wooly Boots, I have a small island nearby that famous Welsh city. Cardigan Island (in Welsh: Ynys Aberteifi) is inhabited by a colony of grey seals, from whom I collect no rent. Hence, as you can see, I have good reasons to enjoy living at Bear's micro-holding (a very small "small holding") in the colony.

However, I have established my presence here. My domain includes two lovely parks, and several city blocks.

The weather today is 0°C (32F), with very light snow falling, and mostly melting. Since Bear had not gone back into hibernation, I convinced him that we should check my Canadian "estate."

So off we went. We began, as usual, walking a couple of city blocks Then, through the first park, then the second (adjoining) park, then up the riverbank trail, then around another couple of blocks, and home.

I'm happy to report that everything is in good order. I must comment the crews on their excellent care for this area.

Now, for a nap in front of the fire place, while Bear heads back to his bed (not his winter den). Don't blame him; perfect weather for a snooze, terrible for hibernating.
