Usually when someone in this household goes shopping, I get to ride along. There's a really nice carpet in the back seat of the car. Even if someone is in the store, I won't get cold, because I have on my winter coat.
But yesterday was -49°C (or -56°F if you prefer). First, the car wouldn't start. So — make sure the block heater is working, and the battery charger is on. A couple of hours later, the car started, but it was ruled inadvisable to take me on the shopping trip.
I was annoyed, to put it mildly. I am a Duchess; I should be taken places.
Really, sometimes these colonials can be such a bother!

I seriouly can not comprehend that sort of cold. No wonder everyone gets S.A.D.
5 C has me whingeing.BRRRRRRRRRR
How does one do a degree symbol?
® Natalie: Actually, -49°C is unusually cold for us. We normally get some -40 weather every winter, but colder than that is strange. At this end of the Commonwealth, one learns how to dress warmly for the cold; one also learns when going outside is just plain "a bad idea."
I think even your beautiful winter coat wouldn't help much against such weather Sadie; better luck next time!
Actually, my winter coat does work really well. I could probably sleep outside, in a sheltered place, all winter. Say, in a dog house.
But, being a Duchess, I'm accustomed to being pampered. As it should be, for those of us in the nobility.
Dieu et mon droit!
