JANUARY

One thing about January in this part of the world, is that the temperature is usually about -20°C. (That's about -4°F.) Bear would say it's "brisk," "bracing," "fresh," or some other understatement like that.

But the snow (and we get a lot of that — a little bit almost every day) is quite beautiful. It seems to spread a fresh calmness over the world. Light and bright. Interrupted by a few sturdy evergreens, and the seed that the birds spill from the feeders. It's a calmness that muffles the noise of traffic, and makes way for the songs of the finches, chickadees, nuthatches, flickers, and ravens (who come south for the winter).

Now, if we could all just learn to relax in this weather, I think our lives would be a lot better. Stay home by the fire place, perhaps read a book, or watch the birds (my favourite activity, other than sleeping).

How would that suit you?

In response to your question, Beau, Bear allows me wide latitude in my writing, especially when he's hibernating. I love looking out on the snowy world. If it's too cold to play outside, I can at least watch the birds.

Sorry to hear your mom and dad are barking at each other. Not a good sign.

I'll be over to see what you said in just a moment. I'll finish this first.
